Danville’s Monument Berryman redevelopment progresses; first 8 townhomes finished

Danville city officials are on a mission when it comes to growth.

In March, they broke ground on the Monument Berryman Area Redevelopment Project and they are making huge strides.

The first step in redeveloping the Monument Berryman area is officially complete. Phase one of the project was the construction of eight townhomes on the corner of Monument and Cabell Streets.

All eight homes are move-in ready, 4 of them have already sold, and folks are jumping at the chance to buy the others.

Division Director of Housing and Development, Susan McCulloch said the developers were eager to get the project started.

“They got everything built very quickly and here they are. they’re beautiful. they are transforming the neighborhood and providing new homes for the community, new homes we really need,” McCulloch said.

When the city announced the project, city officials called it a huge milestone in addressing the pressing housing needs. Now that phase one is checked off their list, they are one step closer.

When the entire project is complete there will be 34 townhomes and 60 apartment units spread out between Monument, Cabell, Shelton, and Beauregard streets making this one of the city’s largest housing projects.

“It hasn’t been seen here in a long time. so, we’re really excited to see the new homes that were recommended on paper, spring up and be larger as life and ready to occupy,” McCulloch said.

The townhomes are around 1.500 square feet with modern designs and amenities. They have 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a back patio, and more.
