A Season of Growth
Throughout the last six months, the City of Danville has experienced a period of great excitement as recent job announcements have been made, grand openings have been celebrated, and new businesses have made their way to our region.
This April, as we look forward to the arrival of spring, let’s take a look back on the momentous growth that is happening in our own backyard.
Microporous: New Jobs, New Opportunities
In November of 2024, State, City, and County leaders, community partners, media outlets, and more gathered to witness the largest announcement in Southern Virginia history. Governor Youngkin announced the creation of 2,015 jobs as Microporous planted their roots at the Southern Virginia Megasite at Berry Hill with a $1.35 billion investment.
“We could not be more thrilled that Microporous has made the decision to call Southern Virginia its home,” reflects Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism Director, Corrie Bobe. “We are looking forward to this upcoming year as we work together with Microporous to establish well-paying jobs and enhance the quality of life for our residents.”
Microporous will establish a cutting-edge manufacturing facility, planned for 2026, that will produce lithium-ion battery separators, used for electric vehicles and other applications.
Caesars Virginia: Experience the Empire
In December of 2024, Caesars Virginia, Danville’s casino resort destination, held its grand opening to the public with a full day of celebrations. State and local leaders gathered to honor this occasion with an opening ceremony, which featured sports cars from VIRginia International Raceway and RBW Electric Cars, a celebratory ribbon cutting, and an appearance from former NBA star, Dennis Rodman, as he placed the first bet at Caesars Sportsbook.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been two incredible months since we made history with the opening of the all-new Caesars Virginia,” said Chris Albrecht, Senior Vice President and General Manager. “We could not be prouder of this extraordinary resort, and we could not have done it without the support of our Danville community and our Team Members, who truly are the heart and soul of Caesars Virginia. We look forward to what the future holds here in Danville, and celebrating with our guests, Team Members, and partners in the community for years to come.”
In 2024, over $20 million in tax revenue was collected by the City Danville that will directly support investments into the community, such as family-friendly splash pads, park improvements, and airport renovations.
Dan River Falls: Urban Living Meets Southern Charm
Throughout the last two years, the 550,000 square-foot structure, originally known as Mill No.8, has undergone an historical transformation to feature residential apartments, commercial and office spaces, restaurants, retailers, and more. Dan River Falls officially began moving in tenants in December of 2024.
Current tenant, Brady Walker, reflects on life in this recent development, “My favorite thing about living at Dan River Falls is the view from my living room window. Often, the water in the Dan River is clear enough to see straight through to the bottom and birds, like Bald Eagles, are constantly flying past. There’s always something new to see. “
The Danville Office of Economic Development & Tourism is working to not only generate interest in the commercial spaces available, but also support downtown businesses as visitation is increased from the opening of this development.
“We are excited for this season of growth in the River District, as new businesses make Danville their home and existing businesses expand,” said Samantha Bagbey, Economic Development & Tourism Project Manager. “Our office works to host workshops and events that equip small businesses with the tools they need to succeed long-term, including financial literacy and marketing training. We are looking forward to meeting these new faces this year, as Dan River Falls opens its door.”
Even with the remarkable progress the City has experienced over the past year, the region shows no signs of slowing down. As community leaders anticipate the opening of the Riverfront Park, continued development in the Schoolfield District, and the arrival of new and diverse retailers and restaurants, it is clear that this is only the beginning of Danville’s golden hour.
