Danville operates a Class IV regional airport facility featuring a 6,500 foot paved runway and a 4021 foot runway. The City of Danville just completed construction on a 6.2-acre, $3.5 million multi-use facility apron located in a State designated Enterprise Zone. The airport has a precision Instrument Landing System for runway 02. (ILS) is located on Runway 02-20 and provides advisory service from an operations center tower, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., seven days a week. NASA selected Danville Regional as a Small Aircraft Transportation System (SATS) facility - one of only a handful of such airports in the nation. The airport is also home to Averett University's aeronautics 4-year program and is within minutes of The Institute for Advanced Learning and Research - creating a local research and education presence for Virginia Tech. Fixed Based Operator services are provided by the airport such as professional line service, light turbine and helicopter repair, aircraft rentals, flight lessons, FAA repair station maintenance and fueling service. (Shell, 100 LL, Jet A) The Danville Regional Airport has a very "business friendly" fee structure that will greatly enhance commercial development and jet aircraft operations. The City of Danville's partnerships with NASA, Virginia Tech, and Averett University and control of the airport facility (with apron expansion) are unique assets that may be aligned on a customized basis to best meet the needs of new and expanding aviation companies in the Danville Region.
